Introduction to Education classes

Bancroft-Rosalie School three years of Education classes to high school students.

Year 1 course- Exploring Education and Training.
Students will complete classwork that will lead to certification as a classroom paraprofessional for general education and Title I classrooms. Coursework will be eleven Units of the Paraeducator Self Study Program. The Self Study Program is a web-based method for school districts to provide introductory training for their paraeducators. It contains several units pertaining to paraeducators' roles and responsibilities, and core knowledge and skills in reinforcing instruction. It is intended to be supplemental to the training provided by school districts, and assists schools in meeting the paraeducator training requirements of No Child Left Behind, the Nebraska Department of Education Rule 11, and the federal  Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
Students will also be assigned to an elementary classroom where they work as a paraprofessional.

Year 2 course- Experiencing Teaching
Students will complete the remaining six units of the Paraeducator Self Study Program which will certify them to work in special education classrooms. Students will be assigned to an elementary classroom where they will work as a paraprofessional.

Year 3 course- Early Childhood Education I and II
Students will work two periods in a lower elementary classroom as the classroom paraprofessional monitoring students doing independent work and assisting students one on one.

Students that become certified paraprofessionals will be eligible for summer employment at Bancroft-Rosalie Community School working as a paraprofessional during summer school for three weeks in Late July and early August.
