LB 996 changed the law for students that want to drop out of school.
•It strikes
2004 language that permitted any parent to discontinue enrollment of 16 or 17
year old child
•It replaced the 2004 language with new section (§79-202) setting forth procedures and forms to be used for
withdrawing 16 or 17 year olds from attendance under two certain limited
circumstances:
1. If the student is experiencing financial
hardships requiring the student to be
employed to support student’s family or dependents of the student; or
2. illness making
attendance impossible or impracticable
