Nebraska School Activities Association Distinguished Service Award
During state boys basketball, I had the opportunity to congratulate Larry Porter, former sports writer for the Omaha World Herald, for receving the NSAA Distinguished Service Award. Larry made two trips to Bancroft-Rosalie home games writing for the OWH. I remember after a football game, the coaches invited Larry down to Larry's Bar to talk after a big win. We talked until it was time to close the bar, then went to Kjeldgaard's house for breakfast. After a basketball game, we went to Tim Slaughter's for sloppy Joe's. I always appreciated Larry Porter for taking the time to socialize with the people he covered.
Larry Porter spent 40 years as a member of the Omaha World Herald sports department.
Thanks Larry, for covering our teams.
