On Sunday, October 6th, at 2 p.m., the John G. Neihardt State Historic site in Bancroft is hosting a presentation by historian Bob Ferguson, who will drawing from more than 5,000 stamp images to show how certain U.S. postage stamps became embroiled in controversy. Examples include a 1962 depiction of Dag Hammarskjold, UN Secretary General, who had died in a plane crash, and the Space Achievement Stamps which went to the moon with Apollo 15, against the rules.
This fun, informative program is free and open to the public, and will appeal to anyone interested in stamps, history, and art. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
Funding for the program is provided by Humanities Nebraska, National Endowment for the Humanities, Nebraska State Legislature, and Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
