Bancroft-Rosalie graduate Eric Browning was named Male Freshman Athlete of the Year Monday evening at the WSC athletic honors banquet held in the WSC Student Center.
Eric has had a stellar freshman season as a pitcher for the Wayne State baseball team. He turned into a steady mid-week starter for the Wildcats, posting a 3-1 record with a 3.28 ERA in seven appearances with four starts and one combined shutout. In 24.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 31 batters, allowing just 19 hits and 14 runs (nine earned) with 11 walks. He had 11 strikeouts and allowed just one hit over six innings in a 9-0 win over Minnesota Crookston on March 30th. He struck out nine more batters in just six innings of work against Minnesota Duluth and had eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings in a 10-4 win at Sioux Falls on April 6th. Eric played high school baseball for the Thurston-Cuming County Thunder and is the son of Alvin and Pam Browning of Lyons, Nebraska.
