G-R-R
GRR is the acronym the B-R staff is using to remind students that they "Gotta Be Safe, Responsible and Respectful." GRR's are handed out (see the picture) randomly by staff when they witness a student doing the right things in school. When a student receives a GRR, they turn it in to the office and are entered into a drawing. On Fridays, five Pre-6 and five 7-12 student names are drawn out and those students receive recognition on the school display sign and eat first in lunch line the next week.
The GRR's are taped onto the wall of the school entryway and when the wall is full the student body earns a celebration.
I think this program is GRRoovy.

New Flag Pole at the football field
A 35 foot flag pole replaced the 37 year old pole at the park. The pole is located next to the scoreboard and should make it easier for fans in the bleachers to stand and face the flag during the playing of the National Anthem.
The original plaque from the local American Legion Post was cleaned at Mid-America and attached at the base of the pole.

Definition of residency for school purposes in Nebraska
Here is the definition of a residence from Nebraska Department of Education Rule 19.
"002.14 Residence shall mean that place in which a person is actually domiciled, which is
one’s established home and the place to which one intends to return when absent
therefrom. It is the place where a person is actually living full-time, as opposed to
vacationing or visiting. It should be noted that, pursuant to Section 79-215 R.R.S. and
this Chapter, a child may have a residence for school enrollment purposes that is
separate from the residence of his or her parents or guardian. An example of such a
situation is when a child resides in a different district than his or her parents, under the
legal or actual charge or control of an adult acting in loco parentis, or an adult who has a
power of attorney under §30-2604 R.R.S. (See also the opinion of the United States Court
of Appeals, Eighth Circuit, in the case of Horton v. Marshall Public Schools, 769 F.2d
1323 (1985)). It should also be noted that the Legislature has provided for several
circumstances in which a person may enroll in a school district other than the district in
which that person has a residence (See Section 79-215 R.R.S. in Appendix C). Lawful
citizenship or presence does not determine residency."
Every district is supposed to have an adult with charge or control of a child claiming to be a resident student fill out Appendix A of Rule 19 for enrollment. A parent would have to fill out residency information on the enrollment option application form in those cases as well. If a parent or parents were to submit false information, that could be a Misdemeanor under state law, (abuse of public records, 28-911). That would be a matter for local law enforcement.

Bancroft-Rosalie nominated for Monsanto Grant
Back after a week visiting family in Indiana and ready to resume blogging.
Bancroft-Rosalie School is one of 24 Nebraska schools nominated for the America's Farmers Grow Rural Education grant. This grant is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund to help farmers positively impact their communities by supporting local school districts. Specifically, the program gives farmers the opportunity to nominate a public school district in their community to compete for a merit-based grant of either $10,000 or $25,000. The program is available in 1,245 counties in 39 states.
Grants will be awarded based on merit, need and community support. The more farmers to nominate a school district, the more it demonstrates community support and strengthens the district's application. So farmers should encourage other farmers to nominate their school district, too. The deadline for nominations has passed. The Monsanto Fund will announce grant recipients at the end of August 2012. If we do not receive the grant, there is always next year.
