I find it interesting that in the February edition of "Leaders To Learn From" on the website https://leaders.edweek.org/profile/robert-harris-assistant-superintendent-human-resources-solving-substitute-teacher-problem/, there is an article titled "A Modern Solution to the Problem of Teacher Absences."
This article describes a school in Massachusetts that had addressed teacher absences by hiring an Electonic Learning Facilitator (ELF) to oversee students completing digital assignments in their "Independent Digital Learning Center." In this school, teachers have the option of requesting a substitute or assigning students to the Learning Center.
Bancroft-Rosalie School has a similar program, with students having an E Day when the teacher is absent. E Day students report to the Media Center/Library to complete their digital assignments. Janet Lutjen, study hall supervisor (our version of an ELF), monitors the students.
B-R is in the second year of E Days and the results have been positive. The goal of the digital assignment is to move instruction forward with an assignment that would be the same as what they would be doing on a traditional class period, rather than a worksheet or something that I would consider "busy work."
Maybe we need to refer to our supervisor as the ELF- Electronic Learning Facilitator.

What do we mean by digital learning?
Digital learning is any instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student’s learning experience. It emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed in college and a career.
Digital learning encompasses many different facets, tools, and applications to support and empower teachers and students, including online courses, blended or hybrid learning, or digital content and resources. Additionally, digital learning can be used for professional learning opportunities for teachers and to provide personalized learning experiences for students.
