Saturday Basketball Tournament Schedules

A TEAM - 8th grade + some 7th

B TEAM - 7th Grade

Nebraska Distance Learning Conference

Wednesday afternoon a Bancroft-Rosalie Blended Learning team attended a workshop presented by Marcia Kish, a highly respected Blended Learning facilitator. The B-R team included Kyle Elsasser, Rebecca James, and Bev Zwygart.
Marcia Kish
Thursday morning I had the opportunity to hear a presentation by Project Tomorrow Chief Executive Officer Julie Evans on what research is telling us about Digital Learning across the United States. These key trends are very different from the way education has been viewed traditionally. Project Tomorrow has been compiling research on Digital learning since 2003.
One interesting piece of information that came from a pilot program in Colorado- parents viewed as paraprofessionals. This means that schools communicate with parents on how parents can serve as "online coaches" for their children, assisting with their child's education at home. I believe we have started addressing this, sending information to elementary parents about programs we are using- XtraMath and IXL. But this is an area that we can improve, developing some guidelines/expectations for online homework.

Blended Learning Pilot School

Bancroft-Rosalie School is one of 27 Nebraska schools selected by the Educational Service Unit Coordinating Council to serve as a pilot program for Blended Learning. Blended Learning can be described as a mix of Internet-based and face-to-face teaching that allows the student to receive a more personalized learning experience. One example would be our elementary science program, where students access much of the content from the Internet using I-Pads, and then the teacher provides additional lessons and written assignments face-to-face.

The Pilot Program will Kick-Off in the Spring of 2016
Participating schools will send a five person team to a one day seminar organized by the Highlander Institute, a leader in BlendEd Learning implementation. B-R will attend March 14 in Lincoln. The purpose of the seminar is to assist the schools to develop a two plan of implementation.

School teams will meet for a regional, one day event to share and revise their plans and learn more about BlendEd Learning practices. B-R will attend the July 20 regional in Columbus.

Throughout the year each pilot school's administrators will participate in regular meetings to support the continued implementation of their Blended learning plan. Participating teachers will also collaborate within their schools and across their region.

During the summer of 2017, pilot schools will meet regionally at one-day events to discuss progress and revise their plans.

Japanese Television Show with guest Dr. Jon Cerny

You can access the Japan television show where I appeared as a guest star at:
http://youtu.be/A1FwYQb4Sno
Have fun watching. There are commercials at the beginning. The education part of the program is the first 40 minutes. The rest of the program talks about canned foods.

I insisted that all B-R students shown have their faces blurred so they would not be recognizable. That probably limited the photos the production company decided to show concerning B-R.

Here are some show descriptions that were on the TV Asahi website.

Conference Basketball Tournament

Following the Boys heartbreaking loss to North Bend the other night, I was disappointed with the way our players and adult fans responded. I am confident that Mr. Meyer will address this with the players this week and Mr. Sjuts will do the same with some of the adults. Clearly our school needs to work on our sportsmanship as part of our Positive Behavior Intervention Support system. Thursday the Girls play the 7:30 pm game against Twin River in Wisner. Friday the Boys play the 7:30 pm game against Howells-Dodge in Humphrey.
