Connect the Dots

Last Tuesday Thurston County Extension and Nebraska Indian Community College hosted a Career Exploration Program called Connect the Dots at the Pender School for Freshmen and Sophomores from Pender and Bancroft-Rosalie. B-R students prepared for the program by meeting with their faculty advisors and developing their Personal Learning Plans and identifying a career pathway they want to explore. I was impressed with the amount of thought the students put into their preferred pathways and think they made some good choices for themselves. Nine students are interested in Health Science, five in Construction, 4 in Education, 4 in Transportation (including auto work), 3 in computer information systems, 2 in Science, technology, Engineering and Math, 2 in Business, 1 in Human Services, 1 in Agriculture, and 1 in Drafting. Several Pender representatives from each of the career clusters were available to meet with the interested students to talk about jobs in their career area and the education and skills they need to be successful in that career.
